Christmas is Approaching in Berlin, and the City is Transforming into a Festival of Lights, Scents, and Holiday Cheer. Berlin Offers a Wide Variety of Christmas Markets, Each Presenting Something Unique—From Traditional Crafts and Art to Mulled Wine, Entertainment, and Family Activities. At Home Here in Prenzlauer Berg, Our Children Are Now at an Age That Makes Christmas Quite Special, So the Family is Very Excited That the Christmas Markets Will Soon Open Again Here in Berlin.
Here is my guide to some of the most popular Christmas markets across Berlin’s districts. Many Christmas markets open on November 25, but the Winter World at Potsdamer Platz opens this year on November 1. The market at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche will even remain open until after the New Year on January 5. However, please be aware that a few markets are only open for a single day or a weekend.
City Center (Mitte)
Christmas Market at Bebelplatz (Gendarmenmarkt)
Berlin’s perhaps most beautiful Christmas market has this year been relocated from the stunning Gendarmenmarkt to the historic Bebelplatz between the opera house and the old royal library, where visitors can experience handcrafted items at the lavish market stalls, while children will be delighted by the large Christmas tree in the center of the square.
When: November 25 – December 31, 2024, open from 12 PM to 10 PM, Fri/Sat from 12 PM to 11 PM

Christmas Market and Winter World at Potsdamer Platz
Known for its 12-meter-high and 70-meter-long sledding hill, which is a hit among visitors. This Christmas market focuses more on sports and fun rather than traditional elements. It might be best suited for children of a certain age and perhaps for young-at-heart souls.
When: November 1, 2024 – January 1, 2025, open from 10 AM to 10 PM

Christmas Market at the Red Town Hall
See the Christmas lights from above on the large Ferris wheel or send the kids off to the ice rink around the Neptune Fountain. If you’re looking for a bit of Christmas action mixed with traditional stalls, this market is a good option, as it is also very centrally located near Alexanderplatz station.

Christmas Market at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche
This market at Breitscheidplatz, around the legendary and illuminated church ruins, is known for its Santa Claus, who hands out gifts daily. Children can enjoy a carousel and a children’s Ferris wheel, and the market stays open even after Christmas. Come and experience a true Christmas wonderland at one of the most visited Christmas markets in Berlin.

Advent Eco Market at Kollwitzplatz
Focusing on ecology with sustainable and fair products such as Christmas decorations and textiles. The market is located in the heart of one of Berlin’s coziest neighborhoods, with cafes, restaurants, and boutiques lining Kollwitzstraße.
When: Every Sunday in Advent, open from 12 PM to 7 PM

Lucia Christmas Market at Kulturbrauerei

Christmas Market at the Manor at Schloss Britz
A Nordic Christmas adventure awaits visitors at this somewhat remote and authentic Christmas market, which you absolutely must not miss, featuring acrobats and a spectacular fire show.
When: All Advent weekends from November 29 to December 22, 2024, open Fri from 2 PM to 9 PM, Sat/Sun from 11 AM to 9 PM

Alt-Rixdorfer Christmas Market
Known for its historical atmosphere and charitable organizations running the stalls. There is also a bit of magic for children and a Santa Claus who comes to visit. You can find a more folk and local vibe here.
